IRA Financial Group, the leading provider of self-directed IRA LLC and Solo 401(k) Plans, announces the findings from its client survey on the most popular cryptocurrencies held by self-directed IRA and Solo 401(k) plan clients. According to the survey, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, and Bitcoin Cash were the five most popular cryptocurrencies held by IRA Financial Group and IRA Financial Trust clients since June 2017. “Not surprisingly, the top five cryptocurrencies held by our wallet control IRA and self directed Bitcoin 401(k) plan clients largely resemble the five most widely held cryptocurrencies,” stated Adam Bergman, a partner with the IRA Financial Group.
According to Mr. Bergman, most of our self-directed Bitcoin IRA and solo 401(k) plan clients have looked at cryptocurrencies as a way of diversifying their retirement portfolio while at the same time gaining exposure to an emerging asset class. Accordingly, a good majority of our cryptocurrency clients have used traditional cryptocurrency exchanges which generally offer the more popular cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoins and Ethereum.

The primary advantage of using a self-directed IRA LLC to make Bitcoin investments is that all income and gains associated with the IRA investment grow tax-deferred or tax-free in the case of a Roth IRA. “Our self-directed IRA and Solo 401(k) plan clients have looked to the most widely held cryptocurrencies as a way to hold n emerging asset class in a tax efficient matter,” added Mr. Bergman.
